As the summer growth in the garden slowly declines and the leaves start to dry, Nasturtiums seem to gain energy and trail everywhere.
I think the intense bright oranges and yellows are fun and somehow acceptable meandering over and around the vegetable garden taking over where the beans have left off.
They are an old fashioned flower – something I remember in my grandmothers garden and they have a rather weird perfume – but quite versatile and wonderful scrambling around the bottom of the fruit trees and look great jammed in vases grouped together on my mantle.
Gather the seeds and they will successfully dry, ready to be flung around in the Spring, grow wild and disobedient and provide a riot of colour late next summer.
